Nexter has announced the new name of its ammunition brand with the aim of consolidating its market position as a leading European ammunition company. In 2014, Nexter acquired the Belgian and Italian companies Mecar and Simmel Difesa to develop the group’s ammunition activities alongside Nexter Munitions. Based in Belgium since 1938, Mecar has built a worldwide reputation in the design and production of weapons systems and a wide range of ammunition. Simmel Difesa supplies medium and large-caliber ammunition to more than 40 countries around the world.

The acquisition allowed, on the one hand, to enrich the product range on all ammunition segments (artillery, tanks, medium-caliber, naval, infantry and mortars) and, on the other hand, to extend the international footprint of the group, the company writes. Today, the group combines its three subsidiaries under a single brand: Nexter Arrowtech. Present in more than 60 countries, Nexter Arrowtech offers a portfolio of ammunition from 20 to 155mm, covering more than 80% of the NATO ammunition range.

Nexter Systems (formerly known as GIAT Industries or Groupement des Industries de l’Armée de Terre, Army Industries Group) is a French government-owned weapons manufacturer, based in Roanne, Loire. In 2015, Nexter and Krauss-Maffei merged under a single structure. The new KNDS – KMW+Nexter Defense Systems—will be the European leader of terrestrial defense with more than 6,000 employees. The supervisory board appointed the new CEO of Nexter Systems, Stéphane Mayer, and the chairman of the executive board of KMW, Frank Haun, as CEOs of the holding company.
