Turkish defense company FNSS has developed Pars IV 8×8 New Generation Wheeled Armoured Vehicle (NG-WAV) to meet the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces (Turk Silahl? Kuvvetleri, TSK), following a request for proposals issued in late 2019/early 2020. The Pars (Turkish for Anatolian Leopard) is an amphibious Armoured combat vehicle family with 4×4, 6×6 and 8×8 versions, produced by FNSS Defence Systems of Turkey. The Pars II sold to Malaysia as the DefTech AV8 Gempita, PARS III to Oman in both 6×6 and 8×8 configurations, and Pars IV 6×6 Scout special operations vehicle developed for the Turkish Armed Forces. The PARS IV 8×8 NG-WAV, offers a combination of the highest mobility and protection of the PARS family and ability to engage variety of threats of the modern battlefield.
The PARS IV 8×8 New Generation Wheeled Armoured Vehicle (NG-WAV), designed and produced with FNSS’ equity, considering the technical features that have evolved according to future requirements and the demands from armies worldwide. The vehicle combines user ergonomics with protection and high mobility. The PARS IV 8×8 has been renewed in order to adapt to different combat environments, and has been updated to accommodate constantly developing technologies and to offer tactical advantages to its users in the battlefield. The vehicle is developed to adapt to today and future hybrid warfare conditions where symmetric and asymmetric threats in place.
The elements that determine the operational capabilities of PARS IV 8×8 in the field; protection, firepower, mobility and electronic infrastructure were adapted to multiple operational scenarios. Thanks to its modular structure, the PARS IV 8×8 has been designed to be configured as different variants that can serve as infantry fighting vehicle, reconnaissance, command and control, personnel carrier, mortar carrier, combat engineering, CBRN and recovery vehicles. Thanks to the modular armour system and special hull design, which has the highest ballistic, mine and IED protection in its class; the ballistic protection levels can also be increased in case for user requirements.
The two-men driver’s cabin in front of the PARS IV 8×8, which can operate day and night in all terrain and weather conditions, provides more than 180°of visibility and a high level of driving safety under armour. Panoramic periscopes in front of the vehicle, as well as driving and thermal cameras in front and rear, provides high situational awareness to the driver and commander. In this way, it is possible to perform all kinds of tasks safely under armor protection, without opening the driver hatch. The power unit is supported by the PARS IV 8×8’s superior mobility, balanced load distribution and fully independent, height-adjustable, hydropneumatic suspension designed to support every mission. Thanks to the all-wheel steering system, the vehicle, which has the ability to turn in a radius as long as its length and can easily manoeuvre in urban areas.
