Raytheon Anschütz, a business of Raytheon Technologies, has introduced the new Naval ECDIS NX for warships. Naval ECDIS NX is a modular Warship Electronic Chart Display and Information System (WECDIS), or warship electronic chart display and information system, application used for safe, efficient navigation and enhanced tactical awareness of naval surface ships and submarines. Naval ECDIS NX is based on a commercial ECDIS and offers customers additional military features as required. Features and chart options are individually configurable, from an ECDIS with certain additional mission functions to a full WECDIS according to the NATO Standardization Agreement 4564 Ed. 3.
Naval ECDIS NX enables adding naval and military features as required by the individual customer or mission. Among the new overlays and features are:
Additional military layer (such as AML) and further chart support
Navigational and tactical overlays, including sensors, effectors and military grid systems
Navigation aids for special missions, including target intercept and search and rescue
Waterspace management, including moving haven and disposition
Antisubmarine warfare
“When deciding for Naval ECDIS NX, our customers benefit from a proven, future-proof and fully type-approved ECDIS software as a basis, as a prerequisite for an easy and risk-free start-up. The modular approach with Naval ECDIS NX ensures mission effectiveness, as it is designed to budget with customizable capability upgrades by pure means of software configuration at any time. It has never been easier for customers to add WECDIS capabilities and use them in their navigation systems,” said Björn Schröder, product manager for WECDIS at Raytheon Anschütz.
The Naval ECDIS NX software application’s modern, clearly structured user interface is designed to support intuitive interaction patterns and to make it easy to operate and to train. It continuously maintains and adapts to new International Maritime Organization standards to offer customers ongoing compliance with ECDIS standards, supported by an advanced configuration management. It has been made available with commercial and military off-the-shelf type-approved hardware, including a chart table, to support fleetwide standardization efforts of a respective navy. Naval ECDIS NX seamlessly integrated into Raytheon Anschütz’s Warship Integrated Navigation and Bridge System, which is state of the art for NATO warships. If required, Naval ECDIS NX can be scaled to a pure commercial application.
