Patria has continuously developed its Heavy Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) -solution and is a leading company in the field of unmanned capabilities in its defense business segment. Patria’s Heavy UGV -solution can be used for logistics services in field conditions, continuous observing and the ability to control an attack. The solution can be placed both, in front of and at the rear of the convoy to provide extra firepower and eyes to the convoy, on both manned and unmanned platforms. The Heavy UGV -solution can also create an advantage by performing multiple tasks simultaneously. Patria’s all vehicles can be converted to unmanned without major changes in vehicle configuration.
Patria utilizes a remote operator either to supplement troop formations or to operate independently as part of unmanned vehicle formation. Patria’s Remote Operating Desk (Patria ROD) is a state-of-the-art user interface that includes features such as augmented reality and haptic feedback, which enables authentic remote-driving functions, as well as a combined stereo camera system. Patria’s Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) can be used for a wide range of missions, including reconnaissance and surveillance vehicles, support and combat missions, emergency response, and especially for dangerous missions for which people do not want to be deployed.
The development of Patria Heavy Unmanned Ground Vehicle -solution has reached a level where the Patria AMV 8×8 vehicle can be operated with a high payload remotely beyond visual line of sight using 4G and 5G networks. This enables vehicles to operate more reliably over longer distances. The vehicle can also utilize other data and communication networks, such as tactical networks. The demonstration of remote-controlled Patria AMV 8×8 vehicle under 5G network was made in cooperation with the University of Tampere, and it was part of the RemoteFeel project. RemoteFeel is a research project founded by Business Finland, FIMA ry (Forum for Intelligent Machines) and the research parties.
Patria has developed its Heavy Unmanned Ground Vehicle system continuously for several years now and is a leading company in area of unmanned capabilities in its business segment. Patria demonstrated first time in public its Unmanned Heavy Ground Vehicle capabilities at European Land Robots Trial (ELROB) by two Patria AMV 8×8 vehicles in Belgium 2018. Patria´s unmanned solution can be integrated to new Patria AMVXP, Patria 6×6 vehicles and to all already delivered AMV 8×8´s without any major changes in the vehicle configuration. The remote control requires the driver to have the most realistic, as a result of a system with optical and acoustic sensors used to illustrate the surrounding environment.
