Amentum (NYSE: AMTM) has been awarded a contract to design and modernize a critical part of the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Program infrastructure. The three-year contract, worth $85 million, will recapitalize the Navy’s spent fuel examination capabilities at the Naval Reactors Facility in Idaho. The examinations performed in this new facility play a critical role in keeping the Navy’s nuclear fleet running safely and effectively. By studying used fuel cores, scientists and engineers can compare real-world performance with predictions from their design and testing processes, ensuring the fleet’s continued mission readiness.
“This new project underscores Amentum’s commitment to supporting the design, engineering, and operational excellence required to sustain the U.S. Navy’s nuclear-powered fleet. By modernizing these vital examination capabilities, Amentum is helping to enhance the Navy’s ability to evaluate, optimize and extend the performance of nuclear fuel cores far into the future,” said Mark Whitney, president of Amentum’s Energy & Environment business. “Our nuclear expertise spans the full spectrum of the nuclear project lifecycle. We deliver safe, innovative and reliable nuclear solutions worldwide.
