General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GDOTS), a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), announced today it has successfully completed the first firing by an industry partner of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Aviation & Missile Center (AvMC) 4.75-inch solid rocket motor, marking a major milestone in the development of tactical rocket artillery. This effort provides affordable, precision massed-fires and increases magazine depth.

Designed by DEVCOM AvMC, and built and fired by GDOTS, the 4.75-inch solid rocket motor was tested on June 17 at the company’s Camden, Arkansas, facility and demonstrated exceptional performance, with results falling within one percent of analytical predictions – a testament to the rigorous design process and manufacturing brought together by this collaborative effort.
