Saildrone Targets European Market with New Danish Subsidiary in Copenhagen

Saildrone, a leader in autonomous maritime systems, has announced the establishment of its first European subsidiary, Saildrone Denmark, headquartered in Copenhagen. This move underscores the company’s commitment to addressing the urgent need for enhanced maritime domain awareness in European water. The decision to expand into Europe comes amid growing concerns over regional maritime security, particularly following recent sabotage incidents targeting critical undersea infrastructure in the Baltic Sea and escalating geopolitical tensions across Northern Europe. Traditional surveillance methods are proving insufficient, prompting demand for innovative solutions capable of providing persistent monitoring above and below the surface.

“Given the recent sabotage of critical undersea infrastructure in the Baltic Sea, the need for permanent maritime domain awareness has never been greater,” stated Richard Jenkins, Saildrone founder and CEO. “I am delighted to announce the establishment of Saildrone Denmark to facilitate our European operations and support allied nations at this critical time for regional maritime security.”

The announcement was made during the Maritime Industry Symposium at the Danish Embassy in Washington, DC, highlighting Saildrone’s dedication to bolstering European maritime defenses through advanced autonomous technologies. Saildrone’s unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) are designed to operate autonomously for extended periods, even in the harshest maritime environments, offering unmatched endurance and resilience. These USVs are equipped with cutting-edge sensors that deliver real-time intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), enabling the detection of suspicious activities, vessel tracking, and protection of strategic waterways

Beyond surface-level surveillance, Saildrone’s technology extends to detailed ocean floor mapping, a crucial capability for safeguarding subsea infrastructure such as pipelines, communication cables, and offshore energy platforms. By integrating high-resolution seafloor imagery with proprietary machine learning algorithms, Saildrone enhances early threat detection and anomaly identification, fortifying Europe’s ability to defend against both conventional and hybrid threats. Denmark’s central location within the European maritime landscape, with coastlines along both the Baltic and North Seas, makes it an ideal base for Saildrone’s European operations. The new subsidiary will serve as the operational hub for all European activities, employing local staff to provide comprehensive support, training, and mission planning services to regional customers and partners

As Saildrone establishes its presence in Copenhagen, the company reaffirms its overarching mission: to increase transparency, predictability, and security across the world’s oceans. This expansion is not merely a business milestone but also a strategic commitment to strengthening alliances, advancing European maritime security, and demonstrating the transformative potential of autonomous systems in safeguarding vital maritime interests. With a $60 million investment secured to drive its European ambitions, Saildrone is poised to play a pivotal role in reshaping how Europe approaches maritime domain awareness and security challenges
