Video of servicemen from the Russia Southern Military District’s 7th Military Base in Abkhazia training on BTR-82AM Amphibious Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) at the Tsabal and Nagvalou ranges. In total, more than 500 servicemen and about 90 pieces of military hardware, including KamAZ, UAZ, GAZ military trucks and T-72B3 main battle tanks, are involved in the training. In course of the field training, special attention will be paid to fire training.
The Southern Military District is a military district of Russia. It is one of the five military districts of the Russian Armed Forces, with its jurisdiction primarily within the North Caucasus region of the country, and Russian bases in South Caucasian post-Soviet states. The Southern Military District was created as part of the 2008 military reforms, and founded by Presidential Decree №1144 signed on September 20, 2010, to replace the North Caucasus Military District, and absorbing the military commands of the Black Sea Fleet and Caspian Flotilla.
BTR-82AM is an 8×8 amphibious armoured personnel carrier (APC) designed and developed by Military Industrial Company of Russia. The APC is expected to replace the Russian Army’s existing BTR-80 series of APCs.The modernised vehicle is capable of performing operations under difficult weather conditions and can manage firing when afloat. The vehicle weighs 16t and is fitted with modern sights. The APC offers improved armour protection and is fitted with bulletproof wheels.
