The Netherlands Marines (Korps Mariniers) assist police with Anaconda off-road vehicles during tropical storm Isaia in Saint-Martin (in the Caribbean). Isaias was upgraded again from a tropical storm to a Category 1 hurricane. Isaias killed two people in the Caribbean and roughed up the Bahamas but remained at sea as it brushed past Florida over the weekend. The Netherlands Marines 32nd Raiding Squadron are intended to be used on roads where police cars can no longer come, for example, due to rainfall or damage. The 32nd Raiding Squadron consists 153 personnel and is stationed in Aruba and is responsible for the defence of the Netherlands Antilles.
The Netherlands Marine Corps 32nd Raiding Squadron (Dutch Caribbean Forces) falls operationally under the command of the Naval Commander of the Caribbean (CZMCARIB). 32nd Raiding Squadron is stationed at the Korps Mariniers Barracks Savaneta (Aruba). Marines on Aruba also participate in anti-drug operations. The squadron is commanded by a Major and consists of Headquarters, 3 Raiding troops and the following supporting units a Fast Raiding, Interception and Special Forces Craft (FRISC) troop (with 12 boats), and a combat service support troop for transport, logistics, maintenance and medical care.
The DMV (Dutch Military Vehicles) Anaconda is a light 4×4 vehicle in the 7-tonne class. Vehicle is based on an Italian Iveco Daily chassis. The power pack consists of a 3-liter Iveco diesel engine generating 180 HP (430 Nm), coupled to an automatic transmission with one reverse and five forward gears. This enables the vehicle to reach a maximum speed of 110 km/h and a maximum range of 1,000 km. The Anaconda project started 2018 and will be available in several variants. The first 36 DMV Anaconda tactical vehicles developed by the Deba Bedrijfswagens B.V. (Bedrijfswagens means professional vehicles) transferred to the Netherlands Marine Corps on 31 January 2019. Two months later, another 10 will follow.
The open architecture of the DMV Anaconda allows the operators to equip it with a range of ammunition. It features multiple weapon mounts to accommodate machine guns.The right section of the windshield is removed to facilitate the installation of a machine gun. The open roof top enables a gunner to operate a 7.62mm or a 12.7mm heavy machine gun from the vehicle. Anaconda protects the on-board crew and troops from small arms fire, shells, and splinters. DMV Anaconda is equipped with a 3l diesel engine with a maximum power production capacity of 180hp. The maximum torque generation capacity of the engine is 430Nm.
