Russian Land Forces to Receive More 300 Armored Vehicles

More than 300 units of armored vehicles and main battle tankwill be transferred to the Land Forces (Sukhoputnye voyska Rossiyskoy Federatsii) of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (Rossiyskaya Federatsiya) in 2020. As part of the execution of the state defense order, enterprises of the military-industrial complex will transfer to the Russian Ministry of Defence modern samples of automotive equipment that have successfully proven themselves in operation in various climatic zones.

Upgraded T-72B3M main battle tanks will be delivered to the units. Also, the T-90M main battle tanks will go into service, which has a 2A46M-4 gun 125-mm smooth-bore gun. T-72B3M, also referred to as T-72B4, is an upgraded variant of the T-72B3 main battle tank (MBT) developed by Uralvagonzavod Research and Production Corporation. The T-90M (Proryv-3 or Breakthrough-3) is an improved version of the T-90 tank. The upgraded T-90M tank has Relikt built-in Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA) and countermeasures system, which triggers smoke grenade dischargers once the tank is being illuminated by a laser beam.

Also, the Russian Land Forces will receive BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles (IFV), BTR-82A and BTR-82AM armored personnel carriers (APC). The BMP-3 is the most heavily armed infantry combat vehicles in service designed and produced by the Kurganmashzavod (“Kurgan Machine Building Plant”). This infantry fighting vehicles has a turret fitted with a low-velocity 2A70 100 mm rifled gun, 2A72 30 mm dual feed autocannon and two 7.62mm PKT bow machine guns. The BTR-82A armored personnel carriers was developed based on the design of BTR-80A, manufactured by the Arzamas machinery Construction Plant of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.
