In a significant stride towards enhancing airmobile and special operations capabilities, German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall, in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz and Armoured Car Systems (ACS), has developed the Caracal—a 4×4 lightweight airborne vehicle. This innovative vehicle was first unveiled at the Eurosatory 2022 trade fair held in Paris. The Caracal is set to become a cornerstone of both the German and Dutch armies, with a substantial order placed under a multiyear framework contract worth €1.9 billion ($2.1 billion). The contract, awarded in July 2023, outlines the delivery of up to 3,058 Caracal airmobile platforms, with 2,054 units designated for the German Army and 1,004 for the Dutch Army. The initial trial models are anticipated to be delivered in the first quarter of 2024, with full-scale production commencing in early 2025. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak
