At the Army-2024 exhibition, Russia’s defense industry company Rosoboronexport showcased its latest technological advancement in counter-battery warfare with the introduction of the Planshet-A (Tablet-A) system. Developed by Holding “Roselectronics” and “High-precision complexes” of the State Corporation Rostec together with Rosoboronexport, the new mobile system, mounted on a wheeled armored vehicle, is designed to enhance the detection and destruction of enemy artillery positions, offering a strategic edge on the battlefield. The Planshet-A system is capable of detecting enemy artillery positions up to 38 kilometers away, pinpointing their exact coordinates, and engaging them with automatic fire control in a remarkably short time. This sophisticated system integrates the Penitsillin automated acoustic-thermal artillery reconnaissance system with the Planshet-A artillery fire control equipment, creating a comprehensive solution for counter-battery operations.
The core of the Planshet-A’s effectiveness lies in its integration with the Penitsillin system, which leverages acoustic and thermal signals generated by artillery shots and shell explosions. Unlike traditional radar-based systems, Penitsillin’s unique method of combining thermal and acoustic reconnaissance allows it to detect enemy artillery positions without being vulnerable to jamming. This capability ensures that the system can accurately map the location of enemy guns on an electronic interface, providing critical data for rapid response. Once the Penitsillin system identifies a target, the Planshet-A fire control system processes the data, calculates the firing coordinates, and transmits this information to gun commanders. This entire process—from target detection to fire control—can be completed in less than a minute, significantly enhancing the speed and accuracy of counter-battery operations.
The Planshet-A system’s versatility extends to its compatibility with various artillery systems and operational multiple rocket launchers, allowing it to employ a wide range of weaponry in counter-battery roles. This flexibility makes it an invaluable asset in modern warfare, where the ability to quickly adapt to different combat scenarios is crucial. One of the standout features of the Planshet-A is its use of a tablet computer specifically designed for artillery fire control. This innovation, the first of its kind in Russia, was developed by the Signal All-Russian Research Institute and was initially presented at the Army 2020 forum. Signal’s CEO, Vladimir Pimenov, announced during that event that the company had secured its first state contracts with the Russian Defense Ministry for the production of this advanced fire control system.
The unveiling of the Planshet-A at Army-2024 highlights Rosoboronexport’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its position in the global defense market. As part of Rostec State Corporation, Rosoboronexport plays a pivotal role as Russia’s state intermediary agency in arms exports. The company’s participation in the 10th anniversary of the International Military-Technical Forum Army 2024, held from August 12 to 14 at the Patriot Exhibition and Convention Center, underscores its commitment to showcasing cutting-edge military technology. Rosoboronexport’s extensive portfolio includes collaborations with prominent international defense companies, such as Selex ES of Italy, Navantia of Spain, and Thales Optronics of France. These partnerships, combined with Rosoboronexport’s official status, enable the corporation to expand and strengthen its long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with foreign partners. India remains one of the major customers, alongside other significant clients like China, Algeria, Syria, Vietnam, Venezuela, and more recently, Iraq.
