The Turkish Land Forces Command has successfully completed inspection and acceptance activities for the HISAR-O+ Missile, officially integrating it into the country’s defense inventory. This development marks a crucial milestone in the ongoing efforts to fortify Turkey’s air defense systems. The Ministry of National Defence proudly announced the inclusion of the HISAR-O+ Missile in its inventory during the Weekly Press Information Meeting. This advanced system, developed as part of the HISAR family of surface-to-air missiles by Roketsan and Aselsan since 2007, represents a formidable addition to Turkey’s defense capabilities. The HISAR-O (Orta rtifa Hava Savunma Füze Sistemi), a vertical launched medium-range SAM system mounted on a truck chassis, builds upon the success and foundation laid by its predecessors within the HISAR family. This next-generation missile system incorporates enhancements that offer increased range and superior performance compared to previous iterations.

One of the distinguishing features of the HISAR-O+ system is its utilization of the Aselsan Kalkan phased array 3D search and track radar, underscoring its advanced technological capabilities. This system is equipped with an infrared homing seeker, ensuring accurate target detection, tracking, identification, and autonomous command and control functions. Its capabilities encompass countering various aerial threats, including fighter aircraft, attack helicopters, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles. The HISAR-O+ Missile’s versatility is further highlighted by its wide array of features, encompassing comprehensive command and control information management and distribution, air defense mission planning at both battery and battalion levels, and multi-engagement capabilities, enabling successive firing. Additionally, its operational prowess extends to day and night scenarios and adverse weather conditions, showcasing its reliability and adaptability in varied environments.

Crucially, the system’s capabilities are amplified by its 360° effective area coverage through vertical launch capability, multi-target and multi-radar fusion, embedded simulation capabilities, identification friend or foe (IFF) systems, and a modular structure with a hybrid control system. These attributes collectively underscore the HISAR-O+ Missile’s cutting-edge technological sophistication. The successful integration of the HISAR-O+ Missile into Turkey’s defense inventory not only reinforces the nation’s security but also signifies a stride towards self-reliance in defense technology. This achievement underscores Turkey’s commitment to fortify its defense capabilities, ensuring enhanced protection against evolving threats in an ever-changing geopolitical landscape. The integration of the HISAR-O+ Missile stands as a testament to Turkey’s dedication to technological advancement and national defense, positioning the nation as a key player in the realm of modern defense systems.

The Hisar (Fortress) is a family of short, medium and long-range surface-to-air missile systems being developed by Roketsan and Aselsan since 2007. The missiles are developed by Roketsan, while most sensors and electronics are developed by Aselsan. The missile family consists of the short range Hisar-A, medium range Hisar-O, the 100 km long range Hisar-U and the 150 km air defence system SIPER. Missile seeker of Hisar-A and Hisar-O is infrared homing. In September 2020, Ismail Demir announced that improved versions of Hisar A and O as A+ and O+ were developed after feedback regarding the missiles’ performance. He also stated that a variant would be developed to fill the gap between Hisar O and Hisar U. Demir also revealed that Hisar-A will enter the inventory in 2020, in a press conference in Ankara. On 9 March 2021, the Hisar-O medium-range air defense systems passes high altitude tests.
