BIRD Aerosystems, a global provider of innovative defence technology and solutions, showcases its Airborne Missile Protection Systems (AMPS) family of solutions, including the SPREOS Directional Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) system, at next week’s AUSA Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington DC. This year’s presence is BIRD’s biggest yet as it joins forces with esteemed American partner, SNC. Building on BIRD’s extensive experience in the Airborne Self-Protection (ASE) sector and SNC’s formidable presence in both domestic and international defence markets, the team aims to maximise opportunities to safeguard the warfighter across a broad spectrum of military and civil aircraft. Additionally, SNC will take on the responsibility of manufacturing AMPS in the United States, reinforcing BIRD’s commitment to localising production and ensuring that these critical defence solutions are readily available to a diverse range of customers, both domestically and internationally.
Ronen Factor, Co-CEO and founder at BIRD Aerosystems said: “The close alignment between BIRD and SNC is evident in their shared commitment to excellence and in their corporate DNA and spirit. This partnership extends beyond the immediate horizon, with SNC poised to create local derivatives of BIRD’s systems, ensuring they are manufactured and maintained to meet specific domestic requirements. Together, BIRD and SNC have already embarked on exploring joint business opportunities, with promising prospects on the horizon. Simultaneously, they are diligently formulating comprehensive, long-term strategic objectives that promise substantial mutual benefits and advancements in defence technology.”
BIRD’s AMPS provides the most enhanced protection for military and civilian aircraft against the growing threat of surface-to-air missiles (SAMs), including man-portable air-defence systems (MANPADS). The system is designed to automatically detect, verify and foil SAM attacks through the use of countermeasure decoys (flares and chaff) and DIRCM that jam missiles’ IR seekers and protect the aircraft. BIRD’s SPREOS, the most advanced and lightweight DIRCM solution available today, is a patented system for missile approach verification, tracking and laser jamming. With almost no false alarms, SPREOS precisely assesses the nature of the threat, tracking it and cueing an advanced dual-band Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) to defeat the threat. BIRD AMPS have been delivered to the US Army for diverse programs worldwide over the last 15 years. The AMPS is fully compliant with the US Army’s Modular Open System Approach (MOSA) and can easily integrate with other controls and systems.
