Turkish Air Defense Missile SIPER Completes Test Fire at 100 Kilometers

Turkish domestically produced high-altitude long-range air defense missile system SIPER, which took place at the test range in Sinop, northern Turkey, successfully completed its test fire. It hit the target with a range of over 100 kilometers (62 miles). The SIPER project is led by Turkish defense companies Aselsan and Roketsan, as well as the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). The system will have the capacity to fight aircraft, cruise missiles, air-to-ground missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. Besides SIPER, which is expected to rival Russia’s S-400, Turkey has also developed the Korkut, Sungur and Hisar air defense systems.

During the first firing test, the SIPER  missile successfully demonstrated the ability to detect, track and hit a high-speed target aircraft at a range exceeding 100 km (62 mi).

The SIPER system project was launched by the Defence Industries Presidency in 2018. The missile is developed by Roketsan and the most sensors and electronics by Aselsan. The long-range indigenous air defence system, SIPER, will complete the most important part of Türkiye’s layered air defence system this year. the 100 km range HISAR-U would enter service before SIPER. Under the project, the SIPER Block I Missile, with a range of more than 70 kilometres, is planned to be put into use next year. The SIPER Block II, which will be put into use later, is planned to have a range of over 100 kilometres and superior manoeuvering capabilities.
