The Estonian Centre for Defence Investments (ECDI) concluded framework agreements with 15 companies for the acquisition of electro-optical equipment. The contracts allow the defense forces to purchase electronic targeting and detection devices, laser weapons sights and sensors, and smart devices containing ballistic solutions. Electro-optical means include, for example, targeting devices, laser sights, and electronic detection devices and sensors. The products are based on night vision and thermal technologies or use radars. Seven-year framework contracts were signed with several Estonian defense industry companies, including eqqus Ltd OÜ, IVA Leon and Bristol Trust, Hevi Optronics and PERIMEX OÜ, and joint offers were made by MOONRAY and Holosun Technologies, Inc.
“These framework agreements allow Estonia to buy the necessary products faster and cheaper and at the same time maintain competition between companies. Night fighting capability as a whole is an extremely important component, the effectiveness of which is also demonstrated by the war in Ukraine,” said Ramil Lipp, ECDI’s Strategic Category Manager for Armaments.
“Electro-optical devices give the defense forces an advantage in targeting and identifying the enemy, especially in conditions of poor visibility, increasing the ability of units to direct fire more precisely and detect the enemy as early as possible. This in turn reduces the risks for unit members and gives them an advantage on the battlefield. Also, the opponent must consider our better capabilities and change their actions accordingly,” said Captain Ahti Habanen, Chief of Armament of the Estonian Defence Forces.
