RENK Group AG, a leading supplier of military and civilian propulsion solutions, has received an order for 50 HSWL284C gearboxes. The transmissions will be used in the Panzerhaubitze 2000 (PzH2000). Delivery is to be made to the Bundeswehr and international customers and will begin in October 2024. The contract includes options for further gearboxes. The HSWL 284C is specially developed for the PzH2000, which has proven itself many times over thanks to its performance and quality. The transmission has the functions of driving, braking and steering, including pivoting – turning the tracked vehicle around its own vertical axis – and thus enables maximum mobility even in difficult terrain.

Michael Masur, CEO Vehicle Mobility Solutions, RENK GmbH: “The order is a continuation of the decades-long partnerships. With our ability to deliver at short notice, we are making a significant contribution to quickly strengthening and maintaining the defense and alliance capability of the Armed Forces.”

Like all RENK transmissions, the HSWL284C guarantees the tactical mobility of land forces, reliably contributes to the protection of the crew as well as to high long-term operational readiness and thus enforcement power in combat. The HSWL 284C is a field-proven transmission with state-of-the-art technology that will also meet the requirements of the coming decades. It ensures maximum mobility, performance and acceleration of the vehicle in any terrain. The electronically controlled automatic transmission takes the strain off the driver, especially in difficult operating conditions. In conjunction with the modern braking system, optimum driving characteristics are achieved. Thanks to its exceptional reliability and service life, the transmission makes its contribution to the survivability of the vehicle and, above all, the crew.

The Panzerhaubitze 2000 (PzH 2000) is a German 155 mm self-propelled howitzer developed by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and Rheinmetall in the 1980s and 1990s for the German Army. The PzH 2000 has automatic support for up to five rounds of multiple round simultaneous impact. Replenishment of shells is automated. Two operators can load 60 shells and propelling charges in less than 12 minutes. The PzH 2000 equips the armies of Germany, Italy, Ukraine, Netherlands, Greece, Lithuania, Hungary, Qatar, and Croatia, mostly replacing older systems such as the M109 howitzer. The maximum range of the gun with standard issue DM92 propellant charges is 30 km with the standard DM121 boattail round, 40 km with base bleed rounds, and 54 km with M2005 V-LAP rocket-assisted projectile.
