Anschütz Prepares for Commissioning of Brazilian Navy Tamandaré Class Frigates

The Brazilian Tamandaré class frigate programme is progressing well and Anschütz is preparing for the next phase of the programme. After the delivery of the navigation systems in the first half of the year, Anschütz started extensive technician training in mid-August in preparation for the commissioning of the integrated bridge systems. Anschütz was awarded the contract to supply a comprehensive SYNAPSIS NAVAL integrated bridge system for the new frigates and a tailor-made package of integrated logistic support as well as a range of local services. Anschuetz do Brasil Sistemas Maritimos Ltda. in Rio de Janeiro will manage the local service activities for these systems and will be the point of contact for the customer.

“We are proud to contribute to a programme that creates so much value for Brazil, advances the maritime industry and innovation and increases the safety of our waters”, said Leandro Pinto, Managing Director at Anschuetz do Brasil. “With high commitment and excellence in technology and service, we are leading the way as the Anschütz team alongside the Brazilian Navy.”

German navigation systems specialist, Anschütz, is making significant strides in Brazil’s Tamandaré class frigate programme, as the company prepares for the next phase of operations.

A group of Brazilian technicians have now received a training where they attained comprehensive knowledge on the latest generation of navigation, control and bridge systems from a manufacturer’s perspective. With this, they will be able to offer Anschütz’s customers a first-class service. The technical services will be available to the customer throughout the life of the new vessels, starting with commissioning and testing. The SYNAPSIS NAVAL integrated bridge system for the Tamandaré class frigates will include multifunctional workstations for customised radar and Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) applications, as well as steering, autopilot, closed-circuit television and communication systems.

With SYNAPSIS NAVAL, the Brazilian frigates will be equipped with a high-quality and proven Warship Integrated Navigation and Bridge System (WINBS), which is currently being used in the world’s most demanding naval projects. Thanks to its high scalability and open system architecture, it can be optimally adapted to the current and future requirements of the Brazilian Navy. The Tamandaré class frigate programme is realised through the transfer of world-leading technologies and extensive local work packages. The programme reached another milestone in early August when the Brazilian Navy celebrated the launch of the first ship at thyssenkrupp Estaleiro Brasil Sul in Itajaí, Santa Catarina. The Tamandaré class frigates are some of the most advanced ships ever built in Brazil.
