Octava Plant Awareded Contract for Enhanced "Obereg" Body Armor with Russian Defense Ministry

The Tula-based “Octava” factory, under the management of RT-Capital, a subsidiary of Rostec State Corporation, has inked a significant contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense to supply a large batch of the upgraded “Obereg” body armor. This advanced gear will be delivered in a modified version with a substantially increased protective area. The new “Obereg” armor, meeting the stringent requirements of the military, boasts a BR-4 protection class. It is designed to stop armor-piercing bullets with thermally hardened cores from 7.62×39 mm and 5.45×39 mm automatic weapon rounds. The core protective components are ceramic armor plates that offer bullet resistance. Additionally, the gear includes aramid fiber packets that provide protection against shrapnel, allowing the vest to be used without the armor plates when facing non-automatic weapon threats.

“The ‘Obereg’ body armor will be delivered to the Ministry of Defense in an enhanced version with a more than 50% increase in the protective area. In the basic configuration of the upgraded gear, the protection area is 70 square decimeters. Despite this increased coverage, the equipment remains comfortable to wear and does not restrict the soldier’s mobility. Our specialists have put in substantial effort to refine the product, ensuring our military personnel are equipped with high-quality and reliable individual protection, considering the diverse threats of modern battlefields,” explained Pavel Pavlenko, General Director of “Octava.”

The “Obereg” is noted for its excellent ergonomics, with even weight distribution that reduces spinal strain, allowing extended wear without discomfort and maintaining high mobility. The basic modification of the gear is lighter than most other market alternatives. The armor’s high reliability in extreme conditions is another standout feature: its protective properties remain unchanged even in water and across a wide temperature range from –40 °C to +40 °C. The need for high-quality individual protection for soldiers is particularly critical in the ongoing special military operation in Ukraine. The enhanced “Obereg” body armor represents a significant advancement in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of Russian military personnel in challenging operational environments.
