Aselsan’s Gürz short-range air-defense (SHORAD) system made its international debut at the World Defense Show (WDS) 2024 in Riyadh, showcasing its formidable capabilities in intercepting aerial threats. Equipped with an array of advanced features, the Gürz is designed to effectively neutralize a wide range of targets, from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to cruise missiles, all from a single integrated platform that offers unparalleled flexibility and mobility. At the heart of the Gürz system lies its all-in-one design, which integrates multiple layers of defense into a single platform, providing a cost-effective and efficient solution for rapidly deploying and protecting critical assets.
The Gürz system showcased at WDS 2024 featured an Anadolu Isuzu truck as its base platform, equipped with state-of-the-art radar systems and sensor suites strategically positioned for maximum coverage and effectiveness. With four active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars and an identification friend-or-foe (IFF) capability, the Gürz system offers unparalleled situational awareness, enabling rapid detection and tracking of incoming threats. Unlike traditional air defense batteries, which require significant resources and time to deploy, the Gürz system offers a streamlined approach that enables swift deployment and relocation as needed.
The armament section of the Gürz system is equally impressive, featuring a combination of missiles, including the Göksur and Hisar missiles with imaging infrared seekers, as well as a 35 mm anti-aircraft gun with an automatic ammunition feeding system. Additionally, the system incorporates very-short-range air-defense (VSHORAD) missile pods for close-in protection against emerging threats. One of the key highlights of the Gürz system is its ability to effectively counter the growing threat posed by small UAVs. With its 35 mm autocannon equipped with ATOM airburst ammunition, the Gürz system can neutralize small UAVs with precision, thanks to the ammunition’s unique ability to form a cone of metal particles, making it highly effective against agile and elusive targets.
Overall, Aselsan’s Gürz short-range air-defense (SHORAD) system represents a significant advancement in air defense technology, offering a versatile and robust solution for countering a wide range of aerial threats. With its integrated design, advanced capabilities, and emphasis on mobility, the Gürz SHORAD system is poised to play a crucial role in safeguarding critical assets and infrastructure in an ever-evolving threat landscape. ASELSAN provides sustainable solutions with critical capabilities in the field of air and missile defense technology. At World Defense Show 2024 the company highlights new additional capabilities to existing well known and deployed systems.
