Serbian company Green Power Turbine Systems introduced the PGB-128, a high-precision gliding bomb tailored for deployment from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at UMEX 2024. Recent events have underscored the susceptibility of low-speed UAVs to air defense systems, prompting a strategic shift towards utilizing them as carriers for air-to-surface loitering ammunition or gliding bombs, especially those capable of operating beyond the coverage of military air defense systems. The UMEX 2024 exhibition showcased a range of such ammunition, boasting attributes such as extended range, minimal radar cross-section (RCS), potent warheads, and remarkable accuracy.

The PGB-128, with a calibre of 128 mm, features a fully modular design and a conventional aerodynamic setup. Primarily geared towards engaging stationary ground targets, it can be released from UAVs’ external hard points compliant with the NATO MIL-STD-8591 standard. Navigation is facilitated by an inertial navigation system (INS), augmented by GPS signals from satellites when accessible. Moreover, the ammunition can be outfitted with either an imaging infrared (IIR) or semi-active laser (SAL) homing system to achieve near surgical precision, with the SAL boasting a circular error probability (CEP) of less than 3 meters.

When launched from a unmanned aerial vehicles at an altitude of 2,000 meters, the PGB-128 has a minimum flight range of 15 km, which extends to 60 km when deployed from 7,620 meters. Measuring 1.053 meters in length with a wingspan of 1.49 meters, and weighing 30 kg (including an 18 kg warhead), the PGB-128 is constructed from composite materials. Using a rocket booster, this variant will be launched to a predetermined altitude and will transition to a gliding flight path after wing deployment. During transport, the upper wings are folded, deploying upon separation from the unmanned aerial vehicles.
