IAI and Odysight.ai Unveil New Monitoring System Technology for UH60 Helicopters

IAI (Israel Aerospace Industries) and Odysight.ai unveiled a cutting-edge visual based health monitoring system for UH60 helicopters. The system is based on a multicamera system that enables real-time monitoring of the aircraft’s systems health, ensuring maximum safety and availability. IAI is using its expertise in aerial vehicles for integration and certification of new capabilities, in order to incorporate this new technology into the UH60 helicopter, similarly to other improvements and systems that are integrated by IAI into this platform especially in the avionic field. This project, led by IAI’s Aviation Group – Engineering and Development center, is part of IAI activity to develop and install cutting-edge health monitoring systems in aerial vehicles. The activity is based on various modern sensor technologies and predictive analysis approaches for health monitoring, such as AI and Digital twin, and provide real-time prognostics of critical components. This initiative is part of IAI’s ongoing commitment to advancing aerospace technology and ensuring the safety and reliability of its aircrafts.

The UH60 helicopter is a dominant player in the rotary wing aircrafts. It is used for various missions, including search and rescue, medical evacuation, and transportation of passengers and equipment. The new visual based health monitoring system provides a comprehensive view of the helicopter’s systems, detecting component degradation and early malfunction before they become critical. The helicopter is equipped with Odysight.ai’s advanced visual sensing & video analytics technology, which include multiple highly resilient cameras, high performance processing unit, machine vision embedded software and AI\ML models and algorithms to support a variety of predictive maintenance and condition-based monitoring solutions. The cameras will be strategically placed throughout the helicopter, capturing real time visual condition on various safety critical components.

Yehu Ofer Odysight.ai’s CEO said: “We at Odysight.ai are proud and honored to be chosen and trusted by IAI for the implementation of this ground-breaking visual based health monitoring system for UH60 helicopters. This innovative solution represents a significant step forward in ensuring the safety and availability of these helicopters, which play a vital role in numerous safety critical missions. By connecting the power of cutting-edge video-based sensors and AI algorithms, this innovative solution will provide real-time insights into the health of safety critical aviation platforms. This partnership highlights the potential of health monitoring systems for aerospace & aviation markets.

Gila Ghilai, VP and General Manager of the Engineering and Development Division, said: “We are thrilled to partner with Odysight.ai on this project. The advanced camera technology, combined with our expertise in aerospace engineering, will enable us to create a state-of-the-art health monitoring system. We look forward to contributing to the safety and success of missions carried out by this important aircraft.”

IAI’s Aviation Group is the world’s leading conversion facility for many aircraft types. The Group deals with all types of manned aircraft, both military and civilian, in IAI; passenger-to-cargo conversion; maintenance, repair and operations (MRO); business jets; aerostructures and assemblies; aircraft upgrades, and more. Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) is Israel’s major aerospace and aviation manufacturer, producing aerial and astronautic systems for both military and civilian usage. It has 15,000 employees as of 2018. IAI is completely state-owned by the government of Israel. IAI designs, develops, produces and maintains civil aircraft, drones, fighter aircraft, missile, avionics, and space-based systems. Although IAI’s main focus is engineering, aviation and high-tech electronics, it also manufactures military systems for ground and naval forces. Many of these products are specially suited for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) needs, while others are also marketed to foreign militaries.
