General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) debuts its new TRX SHORAD, a new robotic short-range air defense system based on the modular Tracked Robot 10-ton (TRX) technology demonstrator at the CANSEC 2023 show in Ottawa. Displayed at Booth 1301 with short-range air defense (SHORAD) payload for the first time, this TRX variant is the latest innovation within Land Systems’ counter-Uncrewed Aerial Systems (c-UAS) family of vehicles. A robotic SHORAD solution can go to the tactical edge of the battlefield, providing soldiers a standoff capability from the enemy. The new TRX variant had presented for the first time during the Association of the U.S. Army’s Global Force Symposium & Exposition, scheduled for March 28 to 30, 2023, at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Designed to be weapon, sight, and platform agnostic, RIwP accommodates firepower growth to support future mission requirements. With survivability in mind the turret allows the warfighter to reload while under armor. This illustration depicts popular configurations to meet the full spectrum of remote turret related missions with a standard cupola being the centerpiece to build tailorable and reconfigurable “plug-and-play” weapons solutions (30mm cannons, coax machine guns, anti-aircraft, anti-tank, multi-mission missiles, target acquisition sensor and sight options).

Part of the Robotic Combat Vehicle-Medium (RCV-M) class, TRX features innovative thinking, ranging from its AI-enhanced design to advanced, lightweight materials and a hybrid-electric propulsion system. TRX sets a new best-in-class payload capacity to accommodate any mission equipment package. TRX’s power and size make it an ideal platform for multirole MUM-T on today’s battlefield. TRX is positioned to provide superior performance as an enabling technology in a myriad of critical battlefield roles, including direct and indirect fire, autonomous resupply, complex obstacle breaching, counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS), electronic warfare (EW), reconnaissance and other battlefield missions.

The modular Tracked Robot 10-ton (TRX) technology demonstrator supports Army objectives for a Robotic Combat Vehicle. The TRX SHORAD brings a new dimension of combat power in SHORAD battalions and provides autonomy within a tiered, layered air defense. TRX’s flatbed design integrates any payload and has a class-leading payload-to-chassis ratio of 1:1. TRX is able to maneuver at speed with all formations and is transportable on Boeing CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter and Lockheed C-130 Hercules four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft. TRX also generates exportable power to support mission command operations and is hybrid-electric in support of the Army’s climate and electrification strategy.
