The Austrian Army Leopard 2A4, which was received second-hand by the Dutch armed forces, replaced the American M60A3 in the late 1990s. 48 of the “Leopard” tanks are used by Panzer Battalion 14 based in Wels. After more than 20 years, the foundations for further use have now been laid. Many components that have now become obsolete are being replaced. In addition, the ability to fight at night is restored by swapping the optics for the commander, gunner and driver. The turret hydraulics are replaced by an electric drive.
