Otokar, the global land systems manufacturer of Turkey, participates in the IDEX International Defence Exhibition in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, on February 20-24, 2023. Otokar showcases vehicles from its wide armoured vehicles range during the exhibition. Many variants from Otokar’s broad range of military vehicles have successfully served different forces in the Middle East and Gulf Regions since the early 2000s. Exporting military vehicles to more than 40 countries, Otokar showcases its strengths at IDEX 2023, one of the major international defence exhibitions.
Otokar displays six vehicles during the event at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre ADNEC: AKREP II Armoured Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Weapons Platform Vehicle, with COCKERILL CSE 90LP 90mm turret system, ARMA 8×8 Armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicle with 30 mm MIZRAK turret system, TULPAR Tracked Armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicle with 30 mm MIZRAK turret system, COBRA II Armoured Personnel Carrier, COBRA II MRAP Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle and ARMA 6×6 Armoured Personnel Carrier.
Otokar Akrep II is a Turkish multi-role vehicle produced by Otokar. There were 2 main types of Akrep II, the electric-drive type is called Akrep IIe, and the diesel-drive type is called Akrep IId. The Akrep IId powerpack is quite unique in the military, as a U-drive has been adopted in order to shorten the pack, to fit it inside the rear engine compartment. The engine is located on the right, with the transmission on the left. As standard equipment Akrep II is equipped with central tire inflation, run flat inserts, ABS, air conditioning. Rear axle steering, CBRN filtration, self recovery winch and safety systems can be optionally equipped.
Otokar Akrep II is armed with a Cockerill CSE 90LP 2-man turret 90 mm low pressure rifled gun with a 36 calibre barrel length, which allows direct firing as well as indirect fire at a range of 6 km with a 30° elevation. Five spare ammunition are available on each side of the vehicle that add to the 12 rounds available in the turret. The CSE 90LP is a pretty low turret, which should add no more than 600 mm to the vehicle height, making it a low visible target. These fires are accurately delivered around the clock using electrically-powered gun drives and a night/day digital fire control system.
