Germany-based Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), which specializes in security and mobility solutions, just released video footage showing its new “BOXER tracked”. KMW presented a tracked version of the Boxer armoured vehicle at the Eurosatory defence exhibition being held in Paris from 13 to 17 June, 2022. The version on display at Eurosatory was armed with a KMW RCT120 remote-controlled turret armed with a 120 mm smoothbore gun with an automatic loader. With the optimal combination of robust and proven technologies, contemporary digitization, high mobility paired with the proven BOXER modularity, the BOXER tracked creates a clear tactical added value for its users.

Since the BOXER tracked is conceptually based on the modular system of the BOXER vehicle family, the driving module can be combined with all BOXER mission modules that have already been introduced. In total, more than 20 different mission modules have already been introduced. By using different mission modules within different troop branches and the same driving module, logistical expenses can be significantly reduced and new technologies can be introduced quickly and comprehensively. This unique symbiosis leads to a high level of logistical commonality with any BOXER nation, a high operational value and high availability.

The BOXER tracked has mobility features similar to 8×8 wheeled armoured vehicles. Compared to the wheeled, the maximum weight of the Boxer tracked increases to 45 tonnes. Like the 8×8 wheeled vehicle, the tracked variant can be integrated with more than 20 different Boxer modules, so stowage room or additional armour can be added to the sides, with growth potential for active/reactive protection on mission modules and on the platform itself. Boxer can be used to create an armoured personnel carrier, self-propelled howitzer 155 mm (RCH155), evacuation vehicle (MEDEVAC), command post, infantry fighting vehicle or tank destroyer with a 105 mm cannon (Boxer MGS).

The engine is mated to a fully digitally controlled Renk HSWL 256 transmission with six forward and six reverse gears derived from the BVP Puma transmission. The power pack can be removed from the vehicle in a few minutes using a crane. The BOXER tracked is also ready to install a hybrid diesel-electric drive. The conveyor belts can be steel or rubber (composite). The drive is provided by a turbodiesel engine MTU 881 CR with an output of 880 kW (1180 hp). With a maximum machine weight of 45 tons, the power-to-weight ratio is 19.6 kW per tonne. The top speed is 100 kilometres per hour, and the mileage is 500 kilometres.
