FFG announced that it has been tasked to perform the Mid-Life Extension (MLE) program of the Danish Army’s fleet of WiSENT, once again underlining the strong and long-lasting relationship with the Danish Armed Forces. The MLE further includes updated Human Machine Interface (HMI) and numerous other improvements based on 15 years of user experience in training and operations. The Danish WiSENT MLE features the latest generation C4ISR systems incl. Danish Army Tactical Communications Network and Video Camera Systems. The first two vehicles have already been upgraded and returned to the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO). The remaining fleet of Danish WiSENT will be upgraded in 2022 and 2023.

The Wisent 1 or Bergepanzer Wisent was developed by a German FFG company as a private venture. The WiSENT 1 multi-functional platform was developed by FFG to flexibly, cost-effectively, efficiently, and economically support the main battle tank and other vehicles in armies around the world. The Wisent 1 is based on the Leopard 1 tank chassis. It is identical to the original Leopard 1 ARV, which was developed in the 1960s. The whole concept behind this multi-purpose vehicle is a modular platform, that can be fitted with various add-ons and interchangeable equipment. The Wisent 1 is a cheaper alternative to the Bergepanzer 3 Bufffel, based on the Leopard 2.

The Wisent 1 can be reconfigured from an armored recovery vehicle to an armored engineer vehicle in less than 5 hours in field conditions. A single-vehicle can be used for various missions. In addition to the improved hydraulic system that provides maximum hydraulic power in any situation, the customer can also choose other upgrade options, such as the hydro gas suspension system, the 960 hp power package, or air conditioning. The WiSENT 1 is an adaptable armored vehicle system that meets all user requirements. Ballistic protection by NATO STANAG 4569 Level 5 and Level 3 protection against mines provide the best possible safety for the crew in crisis areas. The option to include add-on armor modules enables a mission-dependent safety configuration.
