Lockheed Martin, Liverpool, New York, has been awarded a $25,111,798 firm-fixed-price contract for the Malaysia Ground Based Radar System. This contract provides a standalone radar system, ancillary equipment, spares, training, and an interim contract support option. This contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value to $25,718,050. The work is expected to be completed by Sept. 30, 2025. This contract involves Foreign Military Sales to Malaysia. U.S. Air Force Life Cycle Management, Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts, is the contracting activity.
The US will provide two Lockheed Martin mobile radars to Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), as revealed by a notice of contract action dated 9 June 2020 on the US government’s System for Award Management website. This effort is to acquire up to three transportable solid-state long-range surveillance radars. These radars must be capable of simultaneously performing air surveillance and maritime surveillance missions in the South East Asia Theatre. The objective is to provide secure interoperable C3I (Command Control Communications and Intelligence) and Sensor systems supporting U.S. Joint Air Operations to US Government FMS (Foreign Military Sales) customers.
The TPS-77 MRR is designed for ultra-low power consumption and is the most transportable version of Lockheed Martin’s successful TPS-77 product line. The TPS-77 MRR is the latest version in Lockheed Martin’s successful product line of surveillance radars and was developed in response to the evolving needs of armed forces on the battlefield. As the radar rotates through each 360-degree scan, the system automatically adjusts to the selected mission. The design also incorporates Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology. The RMAF is set to upgrade its radar systems to make its defensive mechanism competitive and bolster security systems in the country.
The Western Air Defense Sector hosted a Radar Operations Orientation Course for 12 members of the Royal Malaysian Air Force’s 2nd Air Division, 330th Squadron, Aug. 2-27. This course is designed to teach the RMAF those fundamentals and prepare them to receive the radar in mid-to-late. During the final week, the 116th Air Control Squadron taught radar maintenance training on the TPS-75 radar at Camp Rilea, Oregon. While the 611th Air Support Group operates a similar U.S. version of the TPS-77 radar and they were able to instruct members of the Royal Malaysian Air Force on TPS-77 and TPS-78 maintenance specifics
