Raytheon Awarded $17 Million Contract for APX-119 Transponders and KIV-77 Crypto Modules

Raytheon Co., Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, was awarded a $17,508,265 firm-fixed-price contract for APX-119 transponders, digital control panels, personality modules, KIV-77 crypto modules, crypto simulators and mounting trays. Bids were solicited via the internet with one received. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of Sept. 20, 2026. U.S. Army Contracting Command, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, is the contracting activity.

The AN/APX-119 IFF Digital Transponder combined Mk XII / Mode S / Mode 5 capability transponder enables aircraft to operate seamlessly throughout international, civil, and military airspace, meeting all IFF and ATC requirements. The APX-119 combines the latest digital processing technologies with our demonstrated IFF experience, Mode S, TCAS, ADS-B and Mode 5 processing software in a truly open system architecture transponder which has been sold to numerous commercial and military customers worldwide.

KIV-77 Mark XIIA IFF Crypto Applique is a state-of-the-art cryptographic technology solution for IFF interrogators or transponders. Provides a common enterprise crypto solution that delivers significant savings in lifecycle cost and operational flexibility. Crypto Simulator provides full Mode 4, Mode 5, Level 1 and 2 functional checkout for KIV-77 host equipment. The U.S. Department of Defense AIMS program office ceased generation of Mode 4 Crypto keys in June 2020, and has mandated the conversion for all systems to Mode 5.

Identification Friend or Foe is an identification system designed for command and control. It enables military and civilian air traffic control interrogation systems to identify aircraft, vehicles or forces as friendly, and to determine their bearing and range from the interrogator. A pilot uses the Identification Friend or Foe interrogator to tell the difference between the “good guys” and “bad guys” in a contested environment. Identification Friend or Foe has run on Mode 4 since the 1960s. The U.S. Department of Defense AIMS program office has mandated the conversion for all systems to Mode 5 by June 30, 2020.
