294

Israeli company Plasan is one of the first companies to offer N/GVA (NATO Generic Vehicle Architecture) based platforms. Using Plasan’s vetronics solution, the SandCat 4×4 armored vehicles’ family is ready for any systems and subsystems to be installed. The ambulance version of the SandCat family offers the same level of ballistic and mine protection as the other versions of the SandCat. The rear part of the vehicle has been modified to carry two stretchers and a paramedic offering high level of protection and maneuverability in the modern battlefield. An ambulance variant has just been added to it. To date, there are over 15 variants of SandCats, tailored to meet specific field conditions.

The SandCat is a composite armored vehicle designed by the then Plasan Sasa (now Plasan) of Israel. The SandCat was originally known as Caracal, but by Eurosatory 2006 the name SandCat had been adopted so as not to encourage confusion between the Plasan product and the version of IVECO’s LMV being offered to the German Bundeswehr as Caracal by the now Rheinmetall Vehicle Systems Division. The SandCat is based on a commercial Ford F-Series chassis. The original SandCat was designed around an approximate 4,000 kg gross vehicle weight (GVW) and four-man crew, although following feedback from early evaluations this was revised to around 5,000 kg and four- to five-man crew.

SandCat, Plasan’s family of 4X4 armored vehicles, offers the flexibility and robustness needed for every defense and security mission. While providing high-end protection, SandCat maintains its maneuverability and agility, even when equipped with surveillance and communications systems. The SandCat family has been designed to support a wide range of challenges and missions including: law enforcement, Special Forces, homeland security, border patrol and armed conflicts. SandCats are also used to transport troops, as a command and control centers, and to transport VIPs though conflict zones.
