Baltic Fleet Artillery Receives New MLRS Smerch

The Russian Ministry of Defence reported that multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) Smerch entered the service of the armament of the Baltic Fleet’s army corps deployed in the Kaliningrad Region. The new equipment was received as part of the planned rearmament of the troops with modern weapons and military equipment. Military personnel of the compound within the framework of the planned camp assembly of missile troops and artillery of the army corps began the development of the MLRS Smerch at the training ground.

MLRS Smerch is designed to defeat any group targets, open and sheltered manpower, lightly armored and armored military equipment, missile and artillery units, command posts, communication centres and other enemy infrastructure. The unique long-range 300-mm multiple launch rocket system Smerch allows you to fire at a range of 20 to 70 km and hit targets on an area exceeding 60 hectares. The complex is capable of firing both with single guided missiles and a full salvo of 12.

The Baltic Fleet (Balticskiyy Flot) is the fleet of the Russian Navy in the Baltic Sea. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the Baltic Fleet was inherited by the Russian Federation and reverted to its original name as part of the Russian Navy. The Baltic Fleet is headquartered in Kaliningrad and its main base in Baltiysk, both in Kaliningrad Oblast, and another base in Kronshtadt, Saint Petersburg in the Gulf of Finland.
