The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Barry (DDG 52) conducts operations in the Philippine Sea. Barry is underway conducting operations in the Indo-Pacific region while assigned to Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15, the Navy’s largest forward-deployed DESRON and the U.S. 7th Fleet’s principal surface force. Destroyer Squadron 15 is a squadron of United States Navy Arleigh Burke-class destroyers based at Yokosuka, Japan. Destroyer Squadron 15 has taken part in World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Destroyer Squadron 15 consists of the following ships: USS Barry (DDG-52), USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG-54), USS John S. McCain (DDG-56), USS Benfold (DDG-65), USS Milius (DDG-69), USS McCampbell (DDG-85) and USS Mustin (DDG-89). The squadron is permanently assigned to Task Force 70 (Battle Force, Seventh Fleet), which has operational control of all carrier strike groups and independently deployed cruisers, destroyers and frigates that deploy or transit through the 7th Fleet area of operations. The Task Force 70 Commander also serves as Commander, Carrier Strike Group 5 which includes the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76).

USS Barry (DDG-52) is an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, commissioned in 1992. Barry is the fourth United States Navy ship named after the “Father of the American Navy”, Commodore John Barry (1745–1803). Its homeport is Naval Station Yokosuka, Japan. Barry completed midlife modernization prior to making the switch and was outfitted with Aegis Baseline 9, the latest combat system, which is capable of defensive and offensive operations against aircraft, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, surface ships, submarines and shore targets. Barry also received a fully integrated bridge, quality-of-life upgrades, and advanced galley during refit.
