Servicemen of reconnaissance units of the motorized infantry formation of the 41st combined adjusted the artillery strike on the mechanized column of the mock enemy during a battalion tactical exercise held on the range Yurga. The 41st combined arms army of the Russia Central Military District is stationed in the Novosibirsk, Kemerovo, and Irkutsk regions, the Altai territory, and the Republic of Tyva. It is composed of motorized infantry and artillery formations, Air Defense troops, NBCP, and Signals.
According to the plan of the exercise, when conducting reconnaissance and search operations, the scouts of the motorized rifle unit discovered a column of enemy military equipment. The intelligence was transferred to the command post. The military artillery units on the upgraded 152-mm self-propelled gun (SPG) 2S19M2 “Msta-S” were sent to destroy the “enemy”. During the movement of the artillery column, the scouts passed to the commanders of the artillery batteries updated intelligence about the movement of enemy equipment. Approaching a safe distance, the artillery crews conducted the high-explosive shells fire at targets.
Upgraded (SPG) 2S19M2 “Msta-S” have an automated fire control system and increased target rate of fire. In addition, the SPG has the ability to use digital electronic maps, which allow to navigate the terrain much faster and effectively perform training and combat tasks. More than 800 soldiers take part in the battalion tactical exercises and more than 100 units of military and special equipment are involved. The 2S19 “Msta-S” (after the Msta River) is a 152.4 mm self-propelled howitzer designed by Russia/Soviet Union, which entered service in 1989 as the successor to the 2S3 Akatsiya. The vehicle is based on the T-80 tank hull, but is powered by the T-72’s diesel engine.
