Republic of Korea Army (South Korean) Artillery KH179, K136 and K239
The 155 mm KH179 howitzer is a conversion of the US M114A1 howitzer by Kia Heavy Industries Corporation. The KH179 can fire existing NATO 155 mm ammunition and can also accommodate enhanced performance ammunition such as the elongated Extended Range Full-Bore (ERFB) projectiles. The K136 Kooryoung is a South Korean 130mm (36-round) Multiple Rocket Launch Systems (MRLS) mounted on KM809A1 (6×6) truck chassis. The Kooryong fires two types of rockets, a standard K30 (23 km) and extended range K33 (36 km). The K30 has a maximum range of 23 km. Improved K33 has a range of 36 km. The K239 Chunmoo K-MLRS is a South Korean GPS-guided precision rocket artillery system. Development commenced in 2009. Rockets were developed by Hanwha and the 4 axle launcher vehicle was developed by Doosan. One vehicle can fit 130 mm and 239 mm rockets at once, can also fire 227 mm rockets for M270 MLRS compatibility. The 239 mm guided rocket has a range of 160 km and is used mainly as a “bunker buster”.
