In Stanley Kubrick’s Vietnam War film Full Metal Jacket (1987), American troops sing Mickey Mouse March to ironic effect at the film’s end, as they march out of the city at the Battle of Huế. Since the movie is set back in the late 1960’s, the Mickey Mouse Club TV show was extremely popular, and just about everyone who had seen the show was able to know the lyrics . This song was commonly used as a marching song, as a change from jody-calls and other military cadence calls. Full Metal Jacket is a 1987 British-American war film directed and produced by Stanley Kubrick. The screenplay by Kubrick, Michael Herr, and Gustav Hasford was based on Hasford’s novel The Short-Timers (1979). The film stars Matthew Modine, Adam Baldwin, Vincent D’Onofrio, R. Lee Ermey, Dorian Harewood, Arliss Howard, Kevyn Major Howard, and Ed O’Ross. Its storyline follows a platoon of U.S. Marines through their training and the experiences of two of the platoon’s Marines in the Tet Offensive during the Vietnam War. The film’s title refers to the full metal jacket bullet used by soldiers.
