OCCAR Completes Modernization of COBRA Artillery Location Radar

The Radar Target Generator (RTG) is designed to generate primary radar return and can be placed in the radar’s far field in order to simulate target trajectories and is a key test equipment to complete the Mid-Life Update of the COBRA system. The CRES is the main element to test and verify the COBRA radar performance in a laboratory environment with reproducible target trajectories and is also a key test equipment to complete the Mid-Life Update of the COBRA system. The COBRA ATLAS Sub-Assembly (CASA) ensures communications between the FR C3 Artillery ATLAS and the radar system and its new version addresses obsolescence and interconnections with other COBRA updated components (Data System Group). The New Prime Power Unit (NPPU) is designed to supply hybrid power to the COBRA radar, using variable speed technologies, which is adaptable to any public electric grid. The overall COBRA Mid-Life Update is in progress, with numerous programme milestones to be achieved in the coming two years, covering the signal processor, the data system group, the inertial navigation unit, the prime power unit and the antenna positioner.
