A team from Allied Air Command (AIRCOM) conducted a Mobile Training Team (MTT) event in Bogota, Colombia from 6 to 8 February. The AIRCOM team, led by Major Salvador Perez Garcia, Military Partnership staff officer, delivered the Air Operations Planning Process, phase one and two of Planning, Mission Analysis besides the NATO Organisation, Military Public Affairs, and the Rules of Engagement & Collateral Damage to Air Force Officers and staff.
One of the standing missions for the Colombian Air Force is the employment and usage of aerospace capabilities for Amazon protection, in the protection of the environment in combating the deforestation. Preservation of the Amazon, the world’s largest rainforest, is considered vital to curbing catastrophic climate change, because of the vast amount of greenhouse gas it absorbs.
“NATO is working closely with our Trans-Atlantic Partner Colombia in South America not only to increase mutual understanding, but also to find concrete ways to assist infrastructure improvements and strengthening our relationship”, said Lt Col Kevin Nieberg, Chief of Public Affairs Allied Air Command.
Colombia joined the NATO Partnership for Peace (PfP) programme in 2017 and numerous meetings and collaborative activities between AIRCOM and Partners had been conducted. A valued PfP Nation. AIRCOM has a regional partnership framework with 41 nations. During Madrid Summit in June 2022, NATO members reiterated the importance of NATO’s partnerships and reaffirmed the Alliance’s commitment to cooperative security, especially in an increasingly challenging security environment.
