Navistar Defense, LLC (Navistar Defense) announced an award from the National Advanced Mobility Consortium (NAMC) for the prototype phase of the Common Tactical Truck (CTT) program for the US Army’s PM Transportation Systems and PEO Combat Support / Combat Service Support (PEO CS/CSS). Navistar Defense’s heritage traces back to the proven design, manufacturing, and logistics support of commercial trucks. This enables the company to combine the best of commercial and military capabilities, offering highly capable, cost-effective, low-risk solutions with a strong commercial lineage.

“Navistar Defense is strongly positioned to meet the CTT program’s mission goals of combining commerciality, commonality, and capability at the best value for the U.S. taxpayer. Navistar Defense is uniquely capable of balancing the Army’s force protection, survivability, and mission readiness requirements while leveraging the commercial industry’s rapidly advancing technological capabilities. Our superior platforms are scalable to meet the vast majority of the Army’s Tactical Wheeled Vehicles vehicle applications and mission roles for their medium and heavy fleets,” said Ted Wright, chief executive officer, Navistar Defense.

On Jan. 27, 2023, the U.S. Army announced Transaction Authority agreements to Navistar Defense to provide three prototypes of each variant for the Common Tactical Truck, or CTT, family of vehicles. The CTT program seeks to identify a replacement platform for the Army’s Family of Heavy Tactical Vehicles. The U.S. Army expects to execute multiple Prototype Projects before determining whether to proceed to initial production that could entail purchase of approximately 5,700 vehicles at a value of around $5 billion. A Request for Prototype Proposals for the first phase was issued in late June with an expected Contract Award in December 2022.

Navistar Defense will deliver Load Handling, Line Haul Tractor, and Off-Road Tractor prototype systems that will be assessed through a combination of government evaluations and Soldier Touchpoints (STPs) in order to achieve the US Army’s desired characteristics. Headquartered in Madison Heights, Mich., Navistar Defense manufactures and sustains tactical wheeled and commercial off-the-shelf military vehicles and adjacent battlefield systems for the U.S. government and NATO allies and provides contract manufacturing services at its facility in West Point, Mississippi. Navistar, Inc is an American holding company created in 1986 as the successor to International Harvester.
