The LINUD MALINDO 2022 exercise involving members of the Malaysian Army (Tentera Darat Malaysia, TDM) and the Indonesian Army (Tentara Nasional Indonesia Angkatan Darat, TNI-AD) became a field for the unification of roles and assignments between the two countries. MY Military Times reported that The 17th Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment (17 RAMD) (Para) and the 432nd Battalion Para Rider, Indonesian Army 3rd Airborne Brigade have been entrusted with the success of the joint exercise that is carried out every year. The opening ceremony was officiated by the Commander of 10 Brigade (Para), Brigadier General Khairul Azmizal Ahmad Natal at 17 RMR (Para) Football Field, Terendak Camp last Tuesday.
Exercise LINUD MALINDO was founded based on the decision of the General Border Committee Meeting between Malaysia and Indonesia which focused on joint training of air operations between the Malaysian Army and the Indonesian Army. This exercise is an annual two-way bilateral exercise carried out every year by 10 Brigade (Para) and Kostrad Airborne Task Force (Satuan Tugas Lintas Udara – Satgas Linud). The training focuses on Cross Training Exercises including Para Ground Training (PGT) and Rapid Deployment Force (RDF Deployment) in Airborne Operations, RAID implementation in the mission of Capturing Critical Points and then Extraction to perform the next operation. The Professional Interaction Program (PIP) is also planned to increase cooperation and trust in strengthening defense relations.
The Royal Malay Regiment (Rejimen Askar Melayu DiRaja) is the premier unit of the Malaysian Army’s two infantry regiments. The regiment traces its origin back to 1933 and the 1st Experimental Company, a company of native Malays established as the beginning of a native military force in Malaya. At its largest, the Malay Regiment comprised 27 battalions. At present, three battalions are parachute trained and form part of the Malaysian Army Rapid Deployment Force. Another battalion has been converted into a mechanised infantry battalion while the remaining battalions are standard light infantry. The 17th Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment (17 RAMD) was formed on 1 August 1970. It is an elite force of paratroopers assigned to the Malaysian Army’s 10th Parachute Brigade.
The Army Strategic Reserves Command (Komando Cadangan Strategis Angkatan Darat, Kostrad ) is a combined-arms formation of the Indonesian Army. Kostrad is a Corps level command which has up to 35,000 troops. It also supervises operational readiness among all commands and conducts defence and security operations at the strategic level in accordance with policies under the command of the commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces. The division’s headquarters are in Gowa, South Sulawesi. It is the newest of all the infantry divisions of the Kostrad. The 3rd Airborne Brigade (Raider) is one of its oldest components, founded on 7 February 1962, but was incorporated into the Division in 2018 after being in the Kopassus and the 1st Kostrad Infantry Division.
