The Russian state news service Tass reported that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said at a meeting of the country’s Security Council on Tuesday that he had requested the Russian leadership to deliver additional S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems to shield Minsk. It was stated that the surface-to-air missile systems turned out to be insufficient for Belarus. In 2011, State Secretary of the Union State of Russia and Belarus Pavel Borodin has stated that Russia will supply the S-400 air defense system to Belarus.

The Belarusian reconnaissance and the Russians detected several missile battalions on the territory of Ukraine in close proximity to the Belarusian border, the Belarusian President pointed out. Several missile battalions in Ukraine near the Belarusian border prepared to deliver a strike at the Russian troops staying in Belarus, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said at an enlarged meeting of the country’s Security Council on Tuesday. Mozyr is a city of Belarus on the Pripyat River about 100 kilometres northwest of Chernobyl.

Belarus–Russia relations refers to the bilateral relations between Belarus and Russia. The two countries share a land border and constitute the supranational Union State. Several treaties have been concluded between the two nations bilaterally. Russia is Belarus’ largest and most important economic and political partner. Russia and Belarus have close military relations and are engaged in various joint military-scientific activities. Russia also operates several military bases and radars in Belarus which includes the Hantsavichy Radar Station an early warning radar which is run by the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces and the Vileyka VLF transmitter.

The S-400 Triumf (NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler) is a mobile, surface-to-air missile (SAM) system developed in the 1990s by Russia’s Almaz Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering as an upgrade to the S-300 family. S-400 missile systems are organized around the 30K6E administration system, which can coordinate eight divisions. The 55K6E is a command and control center based on the Ural-532301. The 91N6E is a panoramic radar detection system with a 600-kilometre (370 mi) range and protection against jamming, and is mounted on an MZKT-7930. The 48N6E, 48N6E2, 48N6E3, 48N6DM, 9M96E, 9M96E2, and the ultra-long-range 40N6E missiles have been authorized by a Russian presidential decree.
