The system provides the speed, rate of fire, and mobility to compete and win in the most tenuous of operational scenarios. A fully autonomous, mounted mortar system with the dimensions of a small wheeled vehicle, the SLING is adaptable to a wide range of high mobility platforms. The rapidly deployed 120mm mortar system enables quick response and enhanced survivability, in and out of action within 30 -60 seconds, with shoot and scoot capabilities. Sling is easily operated by a 2 – 4 person crew.
SLING features an accurate automatic laying system and allows a firing azimuth of 220° (±110), with an onboard fire control system that delivers INS precision better than 1 mil. The mortar system is ground deployed in a firing position; firing recoil forces are transmitted to the ground to prevent transmission to the vehicle. SLING delivers massive firepower at 16 bombs per minute, with a sustained rate of 3 – 4 bombs per minute and a firing range of up to 7km (with standard ammunition – M933 or equivalent). The mortar system is suitable for use with all types of qualified 120mm smoothbore ammunition.
The next-generation Sling systems both offer automated capabilities for barrel laying and aiming. The future warfighter will require a mobile mortar system with enhanced effectiveness and improved recoil systems in a lightweight package for rapid response. Bringing in laser and GPS guidance gives battlefield operators the ability to connect on target with the first round, providing increased survivability and inherent cost savings. To meet customers’ wide range of potential requirements, Elbit offers both the all-up Iron Sting guided mortar rounds and the Laser/GPS-Guided Mortar Kit, or LG2MK, which can add precision guidance to legacy mortars munitions.
Iron Sting is a 120mm complete solution that adds inertial guidance, precision GPS, and semi-active laser seeking to provide less-than-one-meter CEP50 capability at ranges out to 12 kilometers with existing propellant zones. Iron Sting is a complete turnkey system that pairs perfectly with existing mortar equipment as well as our high mobility mortar systems. LG2MK offers a unique kit-based approach that can be assembled onto a mortar munition in less than two minutes, enabling mortar teams to turn previously unguided rounds into laser and GPS-guided precision assets very quickly.LG2MK can be dropped right into the current inventory as its compatible with all current tubes and propellant zones.
