French Navy Frigate Auvergne Conducts Exercise with Bulgarian Navy Frigate Drazki in Black Sea

The French Ministry of Armed Forces (Ministère des Armées) on December 29, 2021, the French Navy Aquitaine-class frigate Auvergne conducts naval drills with the Bulgarian Navy Wielingen-class frigate Drazki in the Black Sea. The French frigate Auvergne that has entered the Black Sea is being tracked by the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s forces, Russia’s National Defense Control Center. The Black Sea Fleet’s forces and capabilities have started to track the French Navy’s missile frigate Auvergne that has entered the Black Sea.

Auvergne (D654) is an Aquitaine-class frigate of the French Navy. The Aquitaine class were developed from the FREMM multipurpose frigate program. Auvergne is armed with one Leonardo OTO Melara 76 mm SR naval gun, Nexter 20 mm Narwhal remote weapon systems, MBDA MM-40 Exocet block 3 anti-ship missiles, MBDA SYLVER A70 VLS for 16 MBDA MdCN naval land-attack cruise missiles, andLeonardo (WASS) B-515 launcher for MU 90 torpedoes.The FREMM (Frégate européenne multi-mission) is a family of multi-purpose frigates designed by Fincantieri and Naval Group.

Drazki (Daring) is a Wielingen-class frigate of the Bulgarian Navy. Originally constructed for the Belgian Navy as Wandelaar, the ship was acquired by the Bulgarian Navy in 2004. The Wielingen class is a class of four multi-functional frigates built for the Belgian Navy. The ships are named after sandbanks in the North Sea, not far from the Belgian coast, or sea routes. The lead ship is named after the Wielingen sandbank. The third ship, Wandelaar, was sold to the Bulgarian Navy the same year. Wielingen and Westdiep were sold to Bulgaria in 2008.
