The HISAR O+ missile defense system, which reached the stage of mass production in July, has successfully hit target aircraft in test firing, the Turkey Defense Ministry said Sunday. The ministry said that the test-fire was carried out at the Aksaray Shooting Range on Dec. 24, 2021, from an Autonomous Missile Launching System. The production variant of medium-range surface-to-air Missile Hisar-O+ is ready for the mass production phase. The Hisar-O that was tested on December 24 has an interception range of 25 kilometers and can track up to 60 targets simultaneously at ranges of up to 60 kilometers.

The HISAR (Fortress, Hava Savunma Füze Sistemi) is a family of short, medium, and long-range surface-to-air missile systems being developed by Roketsan and Aselsan since 2007. The missiles are developed by Roketsan, while most sensors and electronics are developed by Aselsan. The missile family consists of the short-range H?SAR-A, medium-range H?SAR-O, the 100 km long-range HISAR-U, and the 150 km air defense system S?PER. The missile seeker of H?SAR-A and H?SAR-O is infrared homing. The development of the long-range missile defense system SIPER is still in progress and it is expected to be ready by 2023.

H?SAR-O (Orta ?rtifa Hava Savunma Füze Sistemi) is a vertical launched medium-range SAM system mounted on a Mercedes-Benz Zetros chassis. The hisar-O missile system is very similar to the Hisar-A family and uses the same systems-III seeker, RF link, fuse, dual pulse rocket motor-but dimensions of the missile are bigger and the range is improved. Another difference is Hisar-O system used Aselsan KALKAN phased array 3D search and track radar. The H?SAR-O can detect targets, track, identify and perform command and control, and fire control functions autonomously. The missile system is effective against fighter aircraft, attack helicopters, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles.

The system’s general features also include management and distribution of command and control information, air defense mission planning at the battery and battalion levels, multiple engagement and successive firing, data links for midcourse guidance, integrated air picture generation, operational capabilities in the day, at night and in adverse weather conditions, a global positioning system (GPS) and navigation, remote control, wired or wireless communication between systems, 360° effective area with the capability of vertical launch, Multi-Target Multi-Radar fusion, and embedded simulation, identification friend or foe (IFF), modular structure, hybrid control system.
