Segers Aero Co., Fairhope, Alabama, has been awarded a $9,598,569 firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract action for the establishment of the T-56 Engine and Quick Engine Change Intermediate Level Maintenance Facility. The contract provides for training for the maintenance, repair and overhaul repairs of the T-56 engine. Work will be performed in Fairhope, Alabama; and Clark Air Force Base, Pampanga, Philippines, and is expected to be completed by Dec. 31, 2026. This award is the result of an international agreement that was source directed in which one bid was received and is 100 percent Foreign Military Sales (FMS). FMS funds in the amount of $374,629 are being obligated at the time of award under task order FA8124-22-F-0005. U.S. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma, is the contracting activity.
The Allison T56 is an American single-shaft, modular design military turboprop with a 14-stage axial flow compressor driven by a four-stage turbine. It was originally developed by the Allison Engine Company for the Lockheed C-130 Hercules transport entering production in 1954. The T56 turboprop, evolved from Allison’s previous T38 series. Originally fitted to the Lockheed C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft, the T56 was also installed on the Lockheed P-3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft (MPA), Grumman E-2 Hawkeye airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft, and Grumman C-2 Greyhound carrier onboard delivery (COD) aircraft, as well as civilian airliners such as the Lockheed Electra and the Convair 580. The commercial version is designated 501-D. Over 18,000 engines have been produced since 1954, logging over 200 million flying hours.
Segers Aero is FAA and EASA approved and the company is designated a Rolls-Royce Authorized Maintenance Center (AMC) for the T56/501 engine and a Lockheed Martin Hercules Service Center. The Company is Honeywell approved for the Fuel Control Unit. Segers Aero provides maintenance support for all T56/501 engine accessories and the propeller shop conducts repair and overhaul on the Hamilton Sundstrand 54H60 propeller, including the pump housing and valve housing to the latest standards of U.S. Air Force Technical Orders or commercial manuals. Segers adds value and convenience to operators through flat rate overhaul exchanges, lease units, field service and training.
