Lockheed Martin and GKN Aerospace Expand Agreement on PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement

GKN Aerospace has signed a follow-on contract with Lockheed Martin to supply launch tubes for the PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) through 2025. Along with the follow-on contact, an additional agreement was reached for a development contract set to begin in October 2021 for tooling, pathfinder units, and qualification necessary to manufacture the mid-section and seeker housing with production of PAC-3 MSE hardware beginning in 2024. For more than 30 years, GKN Aerospace’s Fokker business has applied proven production methods and capabilities to successfully support the PAC-3 program with the development of lightweight composite launch tubes.

Krisstie Kondrotis, President – Defense Business, GKN Aerospace said: “Our extensive relationship with Lockheed Martin on the PAC-3 is built on our outstanding performance, commitment and dedication to our customers. I am proud of our team for their hard work and we appreciate the opportunity to expand our involvement in support of the PAC-3.”

The Patriot Advanced Capability MIM-104F (PAC-3) family of missilies are a combat-proven interceptor that defends against incoming threats, including tactical ballistic missilies, cruise missiles and aircraft. The PAC-3 MSE’s revolutionary two-pulse solid rocket motor provides increased performance in both altitude and range while employing the same proven Hit-to-Kill technology that the PAC-3 CRI missile uniquely brings to the Patriot system. The two-pulse solid rocket motor and enhanced airframe gives the interceptor more maneuverability against faster and more sophisticated tactical ballistic missiles and cruise missiles.

For decades, GKN Aerospace technologies have inspired and industrialized the aerospace industry, combining engineering excellence and technology leadership. GKN Ltd is a British multinational automotive and aerospace components business headquartered in Redditch, Worcestershire. It is a long-running business known for many decades as Guest, Keen and Nettlefolds. It can trace its origins back to 1759 and the birth of the Industrial Revolution.
