Teseo MK2/E’s first show today at SEAFUTURE2021 unveiled by Lorenzo Mariani, managing director MBDA Italia at the presence of Guerini Lorenzo, Italian Minister of Defence and Adm. Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Italian Navy Chief of Staff. MBDA presents for the first time a 1: 1 scale model of the Teseo Mk2 / E anti-ship missile at SEAFUTURE2021 in La Spezia. Now under a development contract for the Italian Navy, Teseo Mk2 / E is a new generation of the Teseo family, known worldwide as OTOMAT. SEAFUTURE2021 is an ideal event to unveil this weapon system a s the event is taking place in La Spezia. This the location of the MBDA site where the new system is taking shape, which is the home of the Italian anti-ship missile par excellence.

Teseo MK2/E is building on the family of legacy Teseo anti-ship missiles with land-attack capabilities, known worldwide as Otomat, alongside present and future technology developments. The Otomat is an anti-ship and coastal defence missile developed by the Italian company Oto Melara jointly with Matra and now made by MBDA. The name comes, for the first versions, from the name of the two builders (OTO Melara MATra) and, for the later versions, Teseo, from the Italian word for Theseus. The latest version of the Otomat is the Mk2 Block IV, also called Teseo Mk2/A. It has a new data link which allows its flight to be controlled from the ship via the Teseo system in a similar way to Erato. GPS is also fitted allowing programmable flight trajectories with complex paths.

The next generation Teseo Mk2/E weapon system is the response to the operational need for shipborne application, facing threats evolution with a timeframe of twenty years and more. Built on the legacy Teseo Mk2/A, the new missile embodies state-of-the-art technologies and full dual role in maritime and strike land scenarios. The new Teseo Mk2/E represents an evolutionary benchmark for all long range anti-ship missile, through adding the capability to operate against target deep in land, reducing reaction time to few seconds in full controlled condition, from mission preparation to target engagement. The TESEO MK2/E integrates a state-of-the-art dual-mode homing head section including both coherent new RF-seeker with ECCM capability and EO sensor for high precision engagement, for sea and land targets.

It includes an innovative mission planning which provides a fast reaction time with automatic firing solution, while planned mission parameters are adjustable by weapon system operator according to real time tactical picture. It can count on a two-way data link system for mission control up to the end of the engagement, to allow target update and reassignment and mission abort. It performs a high subsonic cruise speed and high-G terminal manoeuvrability with an effective range in excess of 350 km at sea-skimming level. It has a fully autonomous integrated INS/GPS and radio-altimeter navigation system with self-adapted sea skimming and fly over-land capability. It delivers lethal effect through an effective scalable, semi-piercing/high explosive warhead.
