Zorya-Mashproekt Gas Turbine Research and Development Complex has signed a contract with India’s Goa Shipyard Limited for supply of two most up-to-date M7H2 units for the needs of the country’s Navy. M7H2 units have an upgraded microprocessor control system, 58,000 horsepower and allow for the speed of 30 knots. Turbo-power units shall be installed at new multi-purpose frigates, which will soon be built at the Indian shipyard. According to the contract, the first unit should be ready in December next year, the second one – in July 2023. Over the past two weeks, Zorya-Mashproekt, Ukraine’s designer and manufacturer of marine and industrial gas turbine plants, has signed contracts with Indian customers totaling about 100 mln USD.

The Indian Navy Talwars features the Zorya-Mashproekt Gas Turbine Research and Development Complex manufactured M7N.1E gas turbine plant which comprises two DS-71 cruise turbines and two DT-59 boost turbines in two engine rooms. The cruising component consists of two DS-71 gas-turbine engines, each rated at 9,000 horsepower (6,700 kW) in forward running, and 1,500 hp (1,100 kW) in reverse. Two cruising RO63 two-speed gearboxes and one cruising R1063 auxiliary gearbox which makes it possible to use any of the cruising engines to drive both propeller shafts. The four gas turbines are mounted on isolated cradles which minimize their contact with the hull and thereby considerably reduce the transmission of her vibration and sound.

Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) is an Indian Government owned ship building company located on the West Coast of India at Vasco da Gama, Goa. It was established in 1957, originally by the colonial government of the Portuguese in India as the “Estaleiros Navais de Goa”. In the wake of Portugal’s defeat and unconditional surrender to India following the 1961 Indian annexation of Goa, it was requisitioned to manufacture warships for the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard. To date it has built 167 vessels, including barges, tugs, landing craft, offshore patrol vessels and other vessels for the Indian Navy, Coast Guard and for export. GSL has been nominated to build Future Indian minehunter class, Talwar class frigates, Fast Patrol Boats and Future Pollution Control vessels.

Zorya-Mashproekt is a research and production complex that specializes in a gas turbine construction. The complex is located in the city of Mykolaiv, Ukraine and is part of the Ukrainian Defense Industries (Ukroboronprom) state corporation. On July 9, 1946 the Soviet government adopted a decision on establishing of the factory in Mykolaiv, while the city authorities found a spot in the southeastern suburbs of the city near a military airfield Kulbakine. Following the 2014 Crimean crisis, the Ukrainians refused to supply the Russian Navy with marine gas turbines from Zorya-Mashproekt, and so NPO Saturn has been commissioned to design new engines for the Admiral Gorshkov and Admiral Grigorovich-class frigates.
