DRU Shipyard Cuts First Steel on Indonesian Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV)

Shipbuilder PT Daya Radar Utama (DRU) has carried out a first steel-cutting ceremony for two new 90 m offshore patrol vessels (OPV) that will be operated by the Indonesian Navy. The Indonesian Ministry of Defense (MoD) announced on the same day that the steel was for two vessels, which are designated “OPV” and “OPV 90 meter”. These OPVs are meant to strengthen Indonesian naval power and to fullfill a gap in the patrol boats segment. The steel sections were cut on 26 August at PT DRU’s facilities in Lampung, South Sumatra.

Both OPVs are length of 90 meters, a width of 13.5 meters and will be powered by four 7,280 KW diesel engines. Both should be able to reach a maximum speed of 28 knots. However one is expected to feature equipment to accommodate a helicopter (helideck and hangar) while the other OPV will lack such facilities. to be equipped with a Rheinmetall Millennium Gun 35mm caliber mounted on the hangar, 2×4 anti-ship missile (likely MM40 Exocet) launchers on the amidship and an OTO Melara 76 mm Super Rapid Gun forward.

The history of PT Daya Radar Utama (DRU) began in 1972 in Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta. DRU started the business as a general trading and services company, including shipyard venture. Initially, the company is focused on the general trading activities on the components of the ship. In 2008, DRU expanding its businesses into a number of regions in Indonesia in order to establish its vision as the nation’s foremost of the shipyards business .Lampung province became the first region to be invested considering the area’s great potential.
