Russia's Raduga Design Bureau Unveils Kh-59MKM Extended-range Air-to-surface Missile

Janes reported that the Raduga Design Bureau unveiled an upgraded derivative of the TV-guided Kh-59MK extended-range air-to-surface missile at the MAKS 2021 International Aviation and Space Salon, held in Zhukovsky on 20–25 July. Designated Kh-59MKM, the missile was developed by the AY Bereznyak State Machine Building Design Bureau Raduga, which is part of KTRV.

The Kh-59MKM missile is designed to penetrate static hardened and buried targets, the missile is equipped with a 360 kg lethality package comprising a 40 kg array of four shaped pre-charges with a contact delayed-action fuse mounted under the radome, and an organic 320 kg penetrating tandem warhead. The new Kh-59MKM is 5.7 m in length, 380 mm in diameter and a has wingspan of 1.3 m and able to penetrate up to 3 m of reinforced concrete. The 36MT turbofan engine developed for the Kh-59M class of missiles is manufactured by NPO Saturn of Russia.

The Kh-59 Ovod is a Russian TV-guided cruise missile with a two-stage solid-fuel propulsion system and 200 km range. It is primarily a land-attack missile but the Kh-59MK variant targets ships.Although the original Kh-59 could be carried by the MiG-27, Su-17M3, Su-22M4, Su-24M, Su-25 and Su-30 family if they carried an APK-9 datalink pod, it was only fielded on the Su-24M in Russian service. From 2008–2015, Russia delivered some 200 Kh-59 missiles to China for use on the Su-30MK2; deliveries may have included both Kh-59MK and Kh-59MK2 versions.

MKB Raduga is a Russian aerospace company, concerned with the production of various missile-systems and related technologies. It is headquartered in Dubna in the Moscow Oblast. Formerly a division of the Mikoyan-Gurevich design bureau, it was spun off as a separate company in March 1957. The Raduga is a subsidiary of Russia’s state-owned JSC Tactical Missiles Corporation. JSC Tactical Missiles Corporation is a major Russian weapon (especially missiles) manufacturer, headquartered in Korolyov, Moscow Oblast.
