Turkish Armed Forces Continues Arming Its Soldiers with BA40 Grenade Launcher

The Presidency of Turkish Defence Industries (SSB) announced that the deliveries of the The BA40 grenade launcher to the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) are in progress. The grenade launchers are produced by Ata Arms Inc. to be specifically compatible with MPT-76 7.62x51mm infantry rifle which has been in production for several years.

The BA40 also has a 228 mm barrel that swivels, which enables it to be fed from either right or left depending on the user. It is fitted with an ergonomic grip and manual safety button. With the stock, the gun is 530 mm long, 56 mm wide and weighs 1,300 grams (empty weight). It fires 40 mm ammunition. The BA40 grenade launcher has a double-action trigger.

ATA Arms have also been producing component parts for the MPT-76 as well as working on various other projects. Turkish newspaper Haber Turk also notes that ATA Arms are currently producing a semi-automatic rifle for the Turkish Navy and a shotgun for the Turkish Army and have also been under contract to Georgia, Bahrain, Kazakhstan and Egypt.

The design was based on the AR-15, but the gas piston system was influenced by the HK417. The MPT was designed for robust high altitude, all weather combat, capable of functioning in extreme hot and cold weather.
